A Relaxing Tropical Getaway
We are currently enjoying the 3rd month of our 8+ month stay at Canal Place and couldn't be happier! This lovely cottage is warm and inviting, and is perfect for a long or short stay. There are so many wonderful things about it, but the very best feature is the amazing location. Being just a 5 minute (or less) walk or an even shorter bike ride from Siesta Key Village has been absolutely fantastic. There are so many charming restaurants and shops that we can easily go to within minutes. Also, the beach is just a short walk or bike ride away as well. We've spent many evenings watching sunset on the beach, having a evening beach picnic, or riding bikes on the beach. Another convenience is that the cottage is located right across from the canal, with its own dock and kayaks. We've been out several times and seen dolphins and manatees on every trip. We even saw a manatee right from the dock. We rented paddleboards from a local rental shop and they delivered/picked up the boards right at the dock, which was so easy - if you prefer SUPs to kayaks. Besides the location, the property itself is really adorable and feels much larger than it actually is. The interior is brightly painted, with a Caribbean/Key West vibe and the owners have taken care to keep the cottage true to the original Old Florida style. The outdoor space is beautiful and includes a screened in lanai, which we have definitely enjoyed as a space to relax and to have dinner. The backyard is a charming little garden, with a brick paver walkway leading to the outdoor hot tub. All around the yard you'll see bougainvillea and a wealth of natural foliage. Just lovely! If you want a true Old Florida, tropical island experience, and not just a place to stay, this is most certainly the spot for you! Forgo the stuffy condo and enjoy this little cottage and you'll be glad you did. If we don't decide to move here permantly sooner than we think...we'll be back!! The owners, Rich and Ali Light, have been lovely...warm, friendly, caring and helpful. You won't have to worry about having issues that won't be taken care of, or owners who are nowhere to be found, because they live just across the canal and are happy to help you with anything you need. They are easy to communicate with and a pleasure to work with! We can't wait to enjoy the next few months here!
Fabulous location in a comfy pet friendly cottage
We (2 couples) have stayed at Canal Place in Siesta Key for 5 years. Our hosts, Rich and Ali Light, are gracious hosts and very responsive. Canal Place is in an excellent location, about 10min to the village and 15 min to the beach. It is a spacious, rustic cottage with a lovely lanai and backyard where we spent most of our time. The kitchen is a good size and has a dishwasher. The cottage has simple decorations and was comfortable for 2 couples (1 larger bedroom, 1 small and 2 small bathrooms). It is located in a quiet neighbourhood away from the parties in the village. There is a small grocery store in the village that is very convenient. Rich was very obliging in allowing us to bring our dogs. Of course, we ensured that they were quiet and friendly and we are responsible owners. We enjoyed use of a kayak for the canals and beach chairs (bring your own umbrella). The facilities outdoors, like the washing machine, chairs, bicycles are shared with the cottage in the back. Actually we made friends with some of those tenants. We really enjoyed our time spent at Canal Place and the Siesta Key area. Rich was great at providing many good suggestions about what to do and where to go in the area. He was also very responsive in making sure that everything at the cottage was working properly!
Great place and location of the island
Large, clean home with very nice and private yard. Close to the village and beach. Great place I would recommend to friends.

Single woman in her 60's
I just returned from a 3 week stay at Canal Place. The weather was wonderful, the cottage very comfortable and appointed with everything you could ever imagine. The beautiful Siesta Key Beach is a 7 minute walk although I did drive over sometimes in the 5-7Pm hour just because I was lazy and wanted to maximize the quiet time on the beach to read. There is a kayak out the front door and 3 bikes in the back. It's a 7 minute walk in a different direction to the hardware store, grocery/wine store, shops and all of the restaurants. It is a very safe and populated neighborhood but you might want a flashlight if you are walking home after dark. Ali and Rich could not be nicer and more helpful. Book early, these cottage go fast. We come every year, wouldn't miss it!
Hi Ali and Rich! As usual, we had a great time in Florida thanks in a major part to you. You were always responsive and helpful any time we had a problem and your maps and brochure are always helpful. We found the house open, clean and ready for us when we arrived. You keep the place in great shape and we enjoy spending a cocktail hour with you and your little girl. Looking forward to seeing all of you next winter! Kris and Larry
Enjoy this ‘Old Florida Charm’ beach cottage. It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms (stall shower in one and tub and shower in the other.) The large living room has French doors leading onto a screened in porch, which overlooks the gardens and a brick walkway to a large shared hot tub. It has a large kitchen and bright dining room surrounded by windows, which have a view of the canal. The master suite has a beautiful bay window for gorgeous views of the gardens and a separate additional entrance for privacy that leads to the outdoor shower. Across the street is the canal and a dock for boating, kayaking and fishing. It is only a short walk to the famous Siesta Key beach and village for all your shopping needs.
